Home Inspector Training
HomePro Home Inspections has trained several inspectors over
the last decade and offers training to those interested in making a career
in the home inspection industry. Proper training prior to going into the home
inspection business is vital to providing a valuable service to your client
and vital to your success.
As you will see below, getting the proper training to enter
the home inspection business is a big commitment of time and money. Before
making this commitment, determine if this is the right career for you. Many
people come to us wanting to be home inspectors without really knowing what
the work is all about. Traversing crawlspaces or climbing on roofs may not
be your definition of a fun day. Youll also have to be a good communicator
with above average people skills.
There are several training options available. HomePro offers
classroom training, a correspondence course, and field training.
Our five day, 60 hr. home inspector course emphasizes practical,
hands-on training. Students are free to manipulate all equipment on hand in
order to become comfortable with the hardware they will encounter in the field.
Training aids include machinery, systems, and components of all types. You
will get hands-on training with a wide variety of electrical panels, distribution
systems (fuses, circuit breakers, trough and sub-panel systems), furnaces,
boilers, air conditioners, heat pumps, water heaters, well pumps, and much
more!
We teach what we know and we know what works. The main campus
of the Professional Home Inspectors Institute is located in Northern Virginia,
just outside of Washington, DC. Our instructors are professional home inspectors.
Each has performed thousands of Home Inspections and taught at the Institute
for several years. The experience at this location includes over 100,000 home
inspections performed, and over 2,000 home inspectors trained. Our students
are from all across North America. Many of our graduates are now operating
large, multi-inspector business. Training with us does not guarantee success;
that will be in your hands. It does guarantee that you will receive the best
training available, from the most experienced staff available, using the best
resources available, in the most advanced facility dedicated to training home
inspectors.
Our Correspondence Course allows you to study all components
of home inspections or to select any subject area for further study. It is
available in a variety of mediums that allow you to choose the way you learn
best. The course includes books, videos, CD-ROMS, and computer testing software
and is conveniently broken down into these easy to master home inspection
components:
Learn from nationally renowned Home Inspectors. The authors
of our books know the Home Inspection business inside and out. They have created
successful home inspector training schools and home inspection businesses.
If you are just thinking about the business and need more information to decide
whether this is for you, or if you are an experienced home inspector looking
for advanced texts on specific subject matter, we have the books for you!
Nineteen (19) hours of professional video. This video taped
instruction includes actual lectures on topics covered in the Professional
Home Inspectors Institute (PHII). The content is indispensable knowledge for
those who perform Home Inspections. Whether you are an "old hand"
or new to the craft, this content is something you must have. The tapes are
available for first time learners or those who wish to review a few sections
of the week long class. Example: Those who have little knowledge of mechanical
systems will find watching the mechanical videos will help them to better
understand the subject.
QuickSearch®
contains thousands of pictures of house problems with descriptive text. It
allows you to look at a picture and quickly identify a house item or problem
and then learn whether it has a history of being problematic. This is a necessary
visual skills sharpening exercise for any inspector. The exposure to both
a wide variety and a large quantity of home problems, which would normally
take years of field training to observe first hand, gives our students the
competitive edge they need to succeed.
Interactive
Learning/Testing Software
Are you getting into the home inspection business from a similar trade (engineering
or architecture for instance) and want to find out how much you know about
the field to see if this is a good career move for you? Have you taken an
Inspector Training Course and want to test how much you have learned, or how
much more you need to learn? Do you have a fear of test taking?
Our interactive Learning/Testing software is like having your
own copy of the teachers manual with all the answers. This computer
software is programmed to teach as well as review. It tells you why your answer
was right or wrong with detailed explanations. Learning/Testing keeps track
of scores in a detailed history file for ready access to progress reports.
Quiz sessions broken down into small groups for easy learning.
The next step is to ride along with seasoned inspectors to gain
the experience needed to interact with the client, learn how to properly inspect
various pieces of equipment, gain experience in estimating the age of equipment
and systems, how to disclose and report information to the client, and other
inspection protocol. You will learn, on a one-on-one basis, everything you
need to know to operate effectively in the field. If you must support yourself
and your family, you need to learn from professionals who are doing the same.
It usually requires completing about 35 to 60 field training
home inspections for a student inspector to become qualified to perform home
inspections. Please note: each students required field experience may
vary. Field training is offered at $500 for all the inspections you can attend
during a week (7 days), or a student may choose to pick and choose the inspections
and these are available at $50 per inspection. Field training is offered every
week from our Webster, NY office and the Falls Church, VA location.
